After replacing the vehicle’s EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), it can be reset using the LAUNCH X431 diagnostic tool. This article will describe how to perform EGR Low Pressure Valve Replacement on a 2021 Fiat Ducato MCA using the LAUNCH X431.
Background Description: EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is a clever engine design that balances environmental protection and efficiency. It returns some exhaust gas to the intake manifold, mixing it with fresh air before entering the combustion chamber, thus lowering the combustion temperature. This reduces the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
A common EGR problem is “carbon buildup blockage.” Oil and particulate matter in the exhaust gas easily adhere to the EGR valve core, causing the valve to stick. Symptoms typically include idling vibration, weak acceleration, and even a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) light. Usually, removing the EGR and cleaning the valve core and intake manifold with carburetor cleaner will allow it to continue operating. However, if the problem is severe, replacement is necessary.
Function description: When the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) low pressure valve or control unit needs to be replaced for a FIAT vehicle, this procedure must be performed.
Device used in this test: LAUNCH X431 PAD V ELITE
Device supporting this function: LAUNCH X431 PRO3 series, X431 PAD series.
Tested model: 2021 – Fiat – Ducato MCA; VIN: ZFA25000002U*****
NOTE: Diagnosing Fiat vehicles manufactured after 2018 requires unlocking the FCA SGW. For information on purchasing an FCA SGW license, please refer to:
Operating procedures:

5. Click [Smart Detection] to scan the entire vehicle systems.

6. Click [ECM (Engine Control Module)] to access the system.

7. Choose [Special Function] -> [Misc Function] -> [EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Low Pressure Valve Replacement].

8. Read the prompt message and click [Continue] repeatedly.
NOTE: The Procedure Shall Be Allowed Only If The Following Conditions Are Fulfilled:
Key ON;
Engine Off.
The X431 diagnostic tool will display “Procedure Completed Successfully” if it detects that the current vehicle meets the requirements. Click [Continue].

9. Follow the instructions displayed on the X431 diagnostic tool:
Once The Command Has Been Sent, Turn The Key To Stop And Wait For The End Of The Power Latch (Control Unit Switch-Off Delay).
The steps are roughly as follows:
– Turn Ignition Key OFF.
– Wait for the countdown to end.
– Turn Ignition Key ON.

10. Once you see the X431 diagnostic tool display “Procedure End! Press Return To Exit“, click [Back]. The program is complete.
