LAUNCH X431 IMMO PLUS tool not only supports key programming, but also can do some ECU cloning work due to the XPROG3 adapter. For example, if you want to replace a BMW MSD81.2 DME ECU, you can use X431 IMMO PLUS to read ISN from the old ECU (Engine Control Module), modify new ECU flash and write ISN to make it work.
Here are the steps (you can do the same for MSD80/MSD85/MSV80 etc.):
Function path: BMW function – Main Function – Engine Module Replacement – Bench Mode – MSD81_TC1796.
Check wiring diagram
Click [Connect] and wait for the connection. After the connection is complete, click [Read Chip ID].
Back up the old ECU’s EEPROM Data and FLASH Data.
Then hit [FLASH Data decryption] function to retrieve ISN code of old ECU. Record this 32-digit ISN code. img8
Disconnect old ECU.
Then connect the new ECU with Launch X431 IMMO Plus and XPROG3 following the same diagram.
Also click [Connect] to connect to the new ECU and Backup flash data of the new ECU.
Extract the ISN from flash data of new ECU. This is the ISN for new ECU.
Go back and select [Change ISN] function.
Input 32-digit ISN code that we read from old ECU.
Then save new flash data.
If the previous operation is correct, we can verify the ISN code by extracting ISN code from latest flash data. It is the same as the old ECU.
The final step is to write the old ECU flash data to the new ECU. Select [Restore Flash Data] function. Select flash data and write.
Disconnect ECU, install the new ECU back to vehicle and test.
