LAUNCH X431 PAD series diagnostic tools and PRO5 tools can support BMW online coding function. When a BMW vehicle has a GWS (Gear Selector Switch) DTC code, you can try to execute the coding function to solve the problem first.
DTC Description:
The GWS (Gear Selector Switch) of BMW X3 has the following DTCs:
8026F0 GWS: No Current Coding Data Stored;
8026F3 GWS: Control Unit Is Not Coded For the Vehicle.

Tested model: 2011 BMW X3, VIN: WBAWX5102BL******.
Procedure:
1. Save the fault report.
The GWS (Gear Selector Switch) has the following DTCs:
8026F0 GWS: No Current Coding Data Stored;
8026F3 GWS: Control Unit Is Not Coded For the Vehicle.
2. Choose [Coding/Program].
3. Choose [Coding].
4. Confirm that the car model information is correct, and click [Next].
5. Choose [GWS (Gear Selector Switch].
6. Click [YES] to continue.
7. (*) is a recommended select item. Choose [F025-12-03-503*].
8. Coding…Please wait.
9. Recoding has been completed. Click OK.
10.Save the fault report. The GWS (Gear Selector Switch) has no DTC.
